Bien que plusieurs soient en colère contre lui, y compris deux collègues rancuniers, un rival jaloux, et l’écrivain qui en a marre de son protagoniste célèbre, il n’y a aucun meurtrier apparent. Est-ce le crime parfait ?

Well, frankly didn't like it but didn't hate it. I have a fondness for Margret and thought this book lacked the complexity of the original novels, the interesting compassion that Maigret characteristically shows the people he deals with, depth to the character of Madame Maigret, and do on. And, regrettably, I successfully guessed what this Maigret was up to by about page 40. So I can't recommend it if you are looking for a police thriller or a genuine mystery. But Simenon (who appears as a character in this book -a good touch!) set the bar pretty high with his Maigret stories!Product details

Simenon had many devoted readers, in France, and in translation in other countries. Many of them were dissatisfied when he got tired of writing about Inspector Maigret, and I think they will be delighted with David Simmons's clever resolution of Maigret's disappearance.
So so! I love the works of Simenon but this a pale imitation, using the characters created by Simenon. I do not recommend this book which is playing on the literary reputation of Maigret.
This edition is in French so you're probably somewhat ready to like Maigret no matter what--the whole series is fun mystery and this particular volume treats the period just after his formal retirement so new aspects of his life float in and out of the story line. If you're reasonably competent in French you'll enjoy.
